Interview with Louise M. Herring, Member since 2010
DVAA: Introduce yourself!
My oil/mixed media paintings, inspired by nature and travel, reflect my involvement with the process of making art. I am not concerned with rendering what I see, but am challenged to express my visual reaction. I like to work in series, a format which offers both a challenge and freedom to explore.
What projects are you currently working on?
I have just finished a series inspired by prayer flags seen in Nepal and Bhutan. I am now interested in exploring the possibilities of encaustics.
What inspires your work?
Color, decorative patterns, gestures, markings and lines are springboards in my art making process.
Is there anything else you would like people to know?
Throughout my years of art making, color has endured as a constant and motivating voice.
