DVAA is excited to announce Connotations, an Open Call exhibition juried by artist Gerard Silva. Artists are invited to submit work that examines the use of text or any basic graphic linguistic symbols in art. Looking at the definition of Connotation as an idea or feeling that a word invokes in addition to its literal or primary meaning. This could invite work that considers visual associations of a particular word or the use of language to define context in your work.
Gerard Silva is a Philadelphia conceptual and text-based artist whose work has been exhibited in New York, London, and Philadelphia. He has degrees in studio art and photography but most of his current work is executed through printing techniques. He has been featured in several newspapers as an Artist to Watch and selected by an Art In America writer for inclusion in a New Art exhibition. His work at the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Puerto Rico garnered him many positive reviews and while living in the Southwest, he was included twice in the Arizona Biennial.
