Lens on Latin America, Juried
Open Call

DEADLINE TO SUBMIT: DECEMBER 23, AT MIDNIGHT

Lens on Latin America, a juried exhibition by DVAA at International House Philadelphia

Open Call to all DVAA Members and Non-members
Deadline to Submit: December 23

Coinciding with the LightBox Film Center’s spring and summer spotlight on Latin American film, Da Vinci Art Alliance presents an open call for photography and photographic works in the upcoming exhibition, Lens on Latin America. LightBox Film Center's Latin American programming features some of the most experimental and radical cinema to emerge out of Latin America in the 1960s and 70s, a time of profound cultural and political change.
Photographs should focus on highlighting Latin American themes, (feel free to interpret this as widely as possible either objectively or subjectively.) In keeping with the experimental approach to the films being screened; DVAA highly encourages innovative and experimental approaches to photographic processes.
Submissions should be accompanied with a 100-word artist statement on your rationale and approach to the subject matter. Selected artists do not need to identify as Latin American, but their work should directly address Latin American themes.

About the Juror:
David Acosta is a writer, poet, cultural worker, and community leader in the fields of arts and culture, LGBT civil rights, and HIV/AIDS activism advocacy. He is the co-founder of Casa de Duende, creating artistic programming that engages a wide range of social, political, religious, cultural, and environmental concerns among local communities. He is also the founder of the Philadelphia Latin American Film Festival.
Acosta has helped found organizations such as Our Living Legacy, the nation's first festival devoted to art and AIDS, The Latin American Writers Collective, Desde Este Lado, and the Philadelphia Working Fund for Artists with HIV/AIDS. Additionally he has served on numerous committees and boards, including past work with the Philadelphia International Film Festival, The Philadelphia Gay and Lesbian Film Festival, and The PA Council on the Arts.
