Our partnership with Atria Senior Living Center, providing mixed media workshops for residents in their Memory Care Unit.
Through our partnership we provide mixed media workshops for residents of Atria Senior Living Life Guidance Memory Care Unit. Memory care is a specialized type of service specifically for individuals facing the challenges of Alzheimer's disease, dementia and other types of memory impairment =. As DVAA Board Member and project lead Linda Dubin Garfield says, it is a true blessing to be able to provide them with a creative outlet and much needed community. The power that art has to bring us to the present is crucial in the development of people facing the effects of dementia and loss of their memory.
DVAA has been running workshops with the memory care unit that will culminate in a small exhibition as part of our May exhibition, Then and Here in Gallery 1 at DVAA. We will continue these workshops through the rest of this year and present a large-scale exhibition of their work at Atria this winter. Many experts say that visual art and music can often awaken memories of people, places and experiences from the past. We are honored to bring our form of creative engagement to Atria Senior Living Center and most importantly, we need your help to continue this work!
